The iPod and the Album

While surfing around I stumbled onto this graphic:

evolutionalternative.jpg

Which is, by my definition, the best review of alt rock music I’ve ever read.

It’s amazing to me that ipods, with a shorter history than Nirvana->Puddle of Mud, have only gotten better. After all, the first ipods were tiny in storage, and large in size. Now we have ipod shuffles that are as big as the original ipods. And yet we have fewer and fewer things to put on them due to the impending march of De-Evolution in music. Plah.

A clever picture (puddle of mudd. heh.), but that’s about as much as i’ll give it.

The only group depicted there that i’ve ever had much taste for is Bush (and i don’t listen to them much anymore), so it’s possible i’m just on a different map entirely, but I could list half a dozen or so other alt rock (ish) bands that are (in my opinion) better than any of them.

As is typical of any discussion on music, i think this is just another case of preference put forth as academia.
