This afternoon, while sitting in the armadillo grill the states attorney dismissed all charges against the three students indicted. There were cheers, clapping and general huzzah among the students here.
For a university who prides itself on eruditio et religio, or education and religion, the questions of criminal complaint must be secondary to the moral questions present in the situation. While I am suspicious of the entire affair, I do not much care if the prosecution has cleared these three students of all charges. Indeed, I want Duke to remember it’s creedo, and acknowledge that regardless of criminal complaints, the act of hiring exotic dancers, or the use of ethnic comments (which has never been denied to the best of my knowledge) is a moral offense that demands response beyond the academic suspension. Regardless of who did what, no one has denied that they hired the girl, for which they should loose their place on the LAX team.

I don’t know all the Duke Universirt rules and regs and if the hiring of the strippers violated that rule, they should be kicked off the team. Should they have been kicked out of school as well?
I congratulate the NC AG’s office for their swift review of the facts and their rebuke of the county prosecuter who was out of control IMHO. I do hope the law change the state AG’s office proposed is adopted, as in the end it protects all NC citizens’ rights.
I don’t know who made the quotation but after being exonerated from a similar case he said, Now sir, where do I go to get my honor back.
