The easiest $25 I never earned.

About two weeks ago, while waiting at the Duke student pharmacy I saw a fly advertising a Duke neurological study. $25 an hour for watching a movie while you’re head is stuck in an MRI machine. Simple enough. Easy money right? I went for the screening appointment, they shoved me in an MRI, and ran a simple test. Push a button every time you see a circle. No big deal.

Today I show up for my first “real” test. two hours in an MRI, $50 bucks for watching the Incredibles. Only this time, it’s a different scanner and low and behold my HEAD won’t fit in the machine. Nothing to do with my large body. Just my large head. As it turns out this study, has something to do with the way children and adults respond to humor. This is somehow illustrated by MRI pictures of brains. As a result of the kids, they used a Child-Sized MRI scanner. I however, am not child sized, nor is my head. So no $50 bucks today.

If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years.
